In a few days Javier Flores and I will go on a photographic excursion that we have done numerous times over the past twenty years and we always look forward to. If you want to join us in this small group photo workshop, it’s just a few weeks away on October 16th to the 18th. Both of us are working professionals that have over thirty years of travel and landscape experience under our belt.
The trip will focus on the Eastern Sierras in the fall and photograph some of California’s most photographically rich areas. All along our trip the aspens will be showing the changing of the leaves of yellows, orange, reds and greens that the Eastern Sierras fall colors have become notorious about. While we may elect to change some details based on weather, the plan is to photograph the mysterious Mono Lake and it’s strange tufa towers then head south down past the Ancient Bristlecone Forest, The petroglyphs around Bishop and the area around Mammoth Mountain to the wondrous landscape of the Alabama Hills near The Mount Whitney Portal.
This trip is for photographers who enjoy getting up early and shooting, shooting all day and then shooting at night. This is not a sight seeing trip. We are capturing the light at the right time of day to get the best pictures. Sight see’ers will get bored. If you love outdoor photography like we do, you will have the time of your life!
We seem to be at the right places at the right time and we thought other photographers might want to join us. We aim to please and will be more than willing to share anything and everything about the area, photography or the business of photography that we know. Including the best places to eat, and photograph. And share the many possibilities of interpreting the images from black and white to HDR, from film to digital, from travel to lifestyle, from landscape to movement. Feel free to bring some samples of your work as we would love to see them.
My first trip to the Area
My first workshop I took was in this area in 1988. I brought a 35mm camera and a 4×5 view camera and shot film. Yes film! Black and White film to be specific. Oh and I got a ride to the workshop that took nineteen hours to arrive in Death Valley. But that’s another story, what I learned is photographers just want to make great pictures and workshops give us the special sauce to get our photography to the next level.
